For many years I served as a volunteer short-term missionary working with Amazon Outreach. My mission field was the thousands of villages along the Amazon river in Brazil. From 2000 to 2004 I went on a dozen trips to the Amazon and visited over 40 villages, working alongside other Christians to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ and much needed medical, dental, and eye care resources to the villagers.
The villages east of Manaus on the Amazon are places of stark contrasts. The people live in simple wooden homes with thatch roofs, but almost every village has a school provided by the Brazilian convertment. Most villages have no electricity, but cell towers along the river are not uncommon today. The jungle and the river provide ample food, yet the people are spiritually starved.
After almost ten years, I now have an opportunity to return to Brazil and the work that I love so much. It is a great privilege to show God’s love every day to people who may not know the LORD. Being used to care for God’s children and bring the good news of the Gospel is a humbling experience, and one that every believer should know.
In years past, the LORD blessed me to be able to fund my mission trips without the need for fundraising. But as I have helped others prepare for the mission field over the past 10 years, I have learned that the fundraising process is a very special way for others to partner in this important work.
The trip is in April 2014 and we will be visiting a part of the Amazon where the mission has never worked before near the border city of Tabatinga. So I want to ask you to consider to be a partner in this trip. You can help in two ways:
- Prayer Partner – prayers are the most important way people can participate in a mission trip. Pray for safety, open hearts, and that the Gospel would be boldly preached.
- Financial Partner – the total cost of the trip is $3,400. Your financial gift in any amount is greatly appreciated and is 100% tax deductible.
